Do you have a unique language that is truly understood by each member of your leadership team? I’m not referring to English, German, Spanish or whatever primary language you speak.
When your team is truly on the same page, you speak a language that is clear, meaningful and sometimes unique for all members of your leadership team.
I recently flew with my wife to Chapel Hill, NC from Northern VA. We both wore headsets and she commented that she didn’t understand a thing that Air Traffic Control and the other pilots were saying. I chuckled and told her she would understand if she knew the special meaning behind the language and what to listen for.
For instance, when I received my IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) clearance, it went something like this:
“N9874E is cleared to Horace William Airport via direct Brooke, Victor 155 – Flat Rock, Victor 3 – HARVY, then Direct. Climb and maintain 3,000. Expect 6,000 ten minutes after departure. Squawk 1374. Departure frequency 128.52.”
This series of instructions wouldn’t make sense unless you knew what to listen for. It’s a unique language among pilots and controllers and keeps everyone on the same page!
EOS clients have their own language as well. Things like “drop it down” (put it on the Issues List), let’s “IDS” it (a unique way of solving problems) or do they “GWC” the seat (can they really do the job, i.e. do they Get it, Want it and have the Capacity to do the job well) are all unique terms that are meaningful and powerful communications among the leadership team.
I encourage you to identify and leverage a unique language among your leadership team. It’s subtle, but will help keep everyone on the same page and working towards your common BIG goal, i.e. your VISION!
