Many companies have adopted EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) as the system for running their businesses. No surprise, since the power of this system lies in its simplicity. However, “simple” does not equate to “easy.” It takes commitment and discipline to successfully implement and reap the benefits of EOS.
As my clients begin the journey, they often ask: “How should we prepare for our implementation?” My response often frustrates them, because it’s not as active as they would like. In fact, as a first step, I ask them to virtually do nothing!
First Step: Open Your Mind
The key to the start of a successful EOS implementation is to take a step back, open your mind and get in touch with what you really want from your business. Opening up your mind to what’s possible can serve as a great boost towards what lies ahead.
Second Step: Take the “Organizational Check-up”
We ask all new clients to take a quick 20-question survey to establish a baseline of the health of their organization. We look at the results, but the process of taking the survey is probably as important as the actual results. It helps provide a framework and mindset around the areas of the business that need attention.
Step Three: Read Traction
Approximately 50% of my clients have read Traction by the first day (Focus Day) of their EOS implementation. Traction provides great insight into the EOS model and the primary tools used in an EOS implementation. It can help with understanding some of the basic terms and concepts before diving into a full EOS implementation.
I also recommend reading Get a Grip if you truly want to get a feel of what it’s like to experience an EOS implementation. Fire up the popcorn, put your feet up and “live” the experience of EOS in the comfort of your own home. Then get ready for your own unique experience as you dive into your own EOS implementation alongside your fellow leadership team members!
So there are things you can do to prep for an EOS implementation, but the most important thing is to open your mind and to commit to both personal and professional growth.
And then be sure to enjoy the journey!
