The term “Zen-Master” and “Entrepreneur” aren’t usually used in the same sentence. We don’t typically think of entrepreneurs with Zen like qualities.
But they do exist, usually exuding an aura of confidence, happiness and prosperity – all seemingly void of conflict and concerns.
This may seem counter to what we typically observe, i.e. common sense tells us we can’t reach this pinnacle of success without high levels of stress and anxiety.
Zen-Master Entrepreneurs are rare, but the secrets of their success are easily understood. Here are 5 disciplines they all have in common:
1. One Vision
Zen-Master Entrepreneurs ensure there is only one Vision throughout the organization. Surprisingly, many organizations have multiple visions in progress and don’t even know it! The Vision/Traction Organizer is a great tool within the EOS toolbox to keep you on track.
2. Recruiting the best people
Many entrepreneurs retain mediocre or toxic people too long, settling for sub par results. Zen-Master Entrepreneurs are relentless about getting the right people in the right seats and making quick changes when needed. The Accountability Chart and the People Analyzer are two powerful tools to help guide you.
3. Delegate-Delegate-Delegate
What good is recruiting great people if you don’t delegate to them? Zen-Master Entrepreneurs delegate to people who run faster and farther than they themselves ever could. This allows them to truly own the Vision of the organization and set the path for the future.
4. Small course corrections done often
When clear about the Vision, small course corrections will get you there faster. When flying from Washington to Los Angels, the crew (or the auto pilot) constantly makes small course corrections that go unnoticed. Zen-Master Entrepreneurs apply small course corrections to their businesses. The Scorecard and Rocks will help you stay on course.
5. Consistent rhythm of working “on” the business
Occasionally, some bigger adjustments are required. Unfortunately, time spent “in” the business can blind us from seeing the BIG obstacles. Zen-Master Entrepreneurs regularly step away from the business to gain better perspectives “on” their business and to stay on course. Use the Quarterly Pulse to discover the invisible obstacles in your way.
Master these five disciplines and enter the world of the Zen-Master Entrepreneur.
But be careful, you may find people around you who will demand to see your ability to levitate as well!
