Ok, just don’t forget to “let go of the vine!”
What would you do if you fell off a cliff and, at the last minute, grab onto a vine that leaves you swinging 1,000 feet above the ground and 1,000 feet from the trees above? I know this may be a stretch, but “hang” in there with me…
In this fictitious scenario, there is no one around to pull you from the vine and you’re a really bad climber. Luckily, there are people on the ground encouraging you to let go because they “say” they will catch you.
Would you let go of the vine?
Chances are, you would only do it if you trusted them and you knew there was a safety net below.
Things are no different with your business. If you want to elevate and accelerate your organization, at some point you need to let go of the vine. But as in the example above, you can’t let go unless you know there’s someone or something there to catch you.
First Things First…
Determine what you can delegate, and then identify who to delegate to. Prepare them and get them excited about the opportunity they’re about to get.
The real question is, “are you willing to let go of the vine?” If not, why? Are you concerned about a lack of safety net? If so, start cultivating your people to fill the role or hire from outside.
Maybe you don’t let go because no one is “good enough” to catch you. Be careful! This is a big misnomer among many entrepreneurs and can lead to stagnating growth and falling profits.
Do what you need to do to let go of the vine and free your team to do the same. When everyone delegates and elevates to their unique ability, the entire organization propels forward at rocket speed!
